Wednesday's Online Business Mistake-Honesty

Happy Wednesday! It is time for another Wednesday's Online Business Mistake.  I really had to think about it this week as I have been covering many of the big mistakes made working online.  I realized that I had not covered honesty on the business mistakes.  I have posted about it in the past tho.

Honesty is very important if you want to succeed in working online.  I have not made this mistake myself as I have always been too honest in life (it is possible-"does this dress make me look" for example) but I have seen many people lie about things in their business.  Sometimes they are not going out of their way to make something up, but they are not being completely honest.

Examples of people not going out of their way to lie would be: promoting a product and using the websites income stats as a sales pitch.  Sure it works sometimes for a quick sale if a customer sees crazy income potential.  They did not go out of their way to make something up.  The problem with this is, they did not personally see these results and the results may be far from accurate (ok, probably are far from accurate.)  They did not make up their own numbers and say I made this amount, but they are still using numbers they have not witnessed.

Other people come right out and say: "I made x (insert big number) amount of money with this product."  If they really did, hey cool and by all means let people know.  But on the same note tell them how you did it and that not everybody will see the same results.  Quite often tho, the person really did not make the x amount of money they claimed when it is a big number.  This is a lie to get you to buy the product.

There are so many lies about "make money at home" that I do not usually believe the big numbers unless I know the person has a good reputation.  The above were just a couple of examples, there are many.

You have to be honest with your customers and potential customers.  By telling somebody that you made a huge amount of money with a program or product when you really didn't, you will not have repeat customers.  You will be hurting your reputation and also risking legal trouble.  Nobody will trust buying from you again if they find you lied to them.  I know I wouldn't.  Make a customer happy and they may tell their friends.  Make a customer unhappy and they will tell the world.  Besides, it is not cool to be lying to people and tell them that you made a lot more then you did.  Be honest in business, always and people will trust you.

Sites I Used to Make Money at Home Working Online

There are many things that I do to make money at home.  Some involve freelance, blogging and paid to post in forums.  This post is going to feature the easy ones that have paid me to work online.  Most of them are free and I am affiliated with most of them, not all tho.  By being affiliated, I may earn a percentage of your earnings-this does not affect how much you earn.

I will explain how I make money and for each one so you know what you need to do with any of the sites you would like to work with.  These are not jobs with an employer, you are an independent contractor who will get paid for work you do.  All of the sites here have paid me and I will tell you how you should expect to receive payment from them.  They are legitimate working online positions.  Any questions you have for me about these opportunities, email me at

The first one is called Postloop, it is completely free-no upgrades or hidden fees.  They have paid me 5 times so far in the month of March so far the payments from here total up to $62.81.  You get paid for posting in forums-you get paid for each post you make in a subscribed forum.

When you sign up, you have to subscribe to Postloop's forum and post 10 quality posts.  You will then have a review done based on the quality of these posts.  Must have good English and good grammar is a plus.  Try to write at least a couple sentences in each post.  Once you get a rating, you can come back and subscribe to various forums and start earning for your posts.  You will not get rich with this, but you can earn extra income and it is pretty easy and fun to do this.  I am affiliated with this site and if you sign up with me, I will earn 20% of the points you earn.  This will not affect your earnings and you will earn the same if you refer.  The above earnings I posted does not include referrals.  This was without referrals.

Payments are through Paypal.  You need to have at least 100 points ($5) in your account and you can request payout.  The money has been in my account within 6 hours from my request.  You can request any time you have at least $5.  They say to allow up to 24 hours for them to review and send payment but I never waited that long.  Check it out to get paid to post in forums, this is the only site I use like this.

This is a social site and is a little different, completely free to join and no strings attached.  It is fun and you can play in fun games such as word bingo, picture contests, open discussions and more.  You earn by winning points (they make it fair for participants) and you also earn for referring.  They have quite a few ways to earn points here and it does not take a lot of time each day.  The payout is $25 (50,000 tickbucks) and it is through Paypal.  They have had many cheaters here so payout can take up to 15 days to process once you request it.  They do pay and I have been paid 5 times from them as well.  Not all during March, but over a few months.  It is not a get rich at home job, but it is fun and you can earn here.  I am affiliated and earn $1 for everybody who joins with me.  You can earn more then I do, I am not as active as I could be.
Check it out to get paid to be social

Wela has paid me, they are a legit business.  I am not promoting them at this time, they no longer offer tour takers for now.  I believe it is hard for people to build a business without being able to purchase tour takers to boost business.  They are legit tho and pay on Fridays for commissions you earned.  You can get direct deposit, a prepaid credit card or check.  I listed them here since they have paid me.

Project Payday

This is a site that has had controversy with people.  I am not sure why to be honest, I have always got paid from them when they owed me commissions.  That is why they are listed here.  Project Payday shows you different ways to earn money and then you get paid from the other sites and people that they teach you to use.  Project Payday does pay you commissions for leads.  I have been a member here since 2007 and have always received payout on time.  They pay by check which gets mailed out on Fridays.  You must have $30 owed to you in order to receive your check the next week.  Just to be clear, they personally only pay you for leads but teach you other ways to earn money.  I am affiliated with them and earn $2 every time somebody enters their email address for more information.  They don't spam, I can't remember the last time I got an email from them but over a year ago.  They are listed here since I do get paid by them.
Check out ProjectPayday for more information.

Iwriter is a site that you get paid to write articles for clients.  I have not done a lot there since the pay per article is not that great.  They are legit and I have been paid by them.  You can get paid by Paypal every Tuesday, once a month or I think every 2 weeks.  I opted for Tuesday and Tuesday morning the money was in my Paypal account before I woke up.  I am not actually affiliated and will not earn anything for you joining.  Tho they are low pay, you can earn quickly and receive quick payout.  Visit Iwriter for more information.

Here is another site that you get paid to write articles for clients.  This one requires you to submit a writing sample to receive a rating before you can write for the clients.  It is a good site to earn some extra money.  It is isn't a high paying site per article, but they are legit and you get paid weekly.  You request payout on Thursday night by midnight (as long as you have $10 or more in account) and your money will be in Paypal account Friday-except for holidays.  I am not actually affiliated here either.  I will not earn anything for you joining and earning.
Check out Textbroker for more information.

Yahoo Voices

Here is another site to get paid to write articles, only they go on your profile and not for clients.  I haven't written here in almost 2 years, but I am receiving residual income from them.  They used to be called Associated Content before Yahoo.  There are 2 ways to get paid here.  You can write an article eligible for upfront payments which I believe are now between $2 and $15.  You also earn residual on your articles based on pageviews.  I am not as active there now, but I am still getting paid from residuals.  You get paid by Paypal.  Articles for upfront payment can take up to 10 days to review and they will notify you of their decision.  Residuals get paid monthly with a minimum of $1.50.  They automatically pay you residuals, you do not need to request cashout.   I am affiliated with them and I believe that I earn a little bit of a percentage from your earnings (I am not positive how the referrals work.)  Check out Yahoo Voices to write articles today!

There are other great sites that allow you to make money at home working online also.  These are the sites that I have been paid by recently and a couple of them for a long time now.  I have never had a problem getting paid from any of the above sites.  They are all free except Wela.  Project Payday was free when I joined in 2007, however it has been a long time and I am not sure if this has changed.

Wednesday's Online Business Mistake-Social Media

Happy Wednesday! It is time for another Wednesday Online Business Mistake again.  Today we will talk about social media.  I am not an expert with using it in marketing, but I have realized the mistakes I have made.  I have a profile at many different sites and it is honestly too many sites to focus on at once.  Not one of my profiles is built up the way it should be to benefit me.

While it is good to have a profile set up at various sites, you should also make sure you do not focus on building too many of them at one time unless you have help.  Hiring somebody to work on just your social media would be a good idea if you want them all built up with a big following.

I joined a bunch, set up profiles and kept bouncing around working on all of them.  The only problem is, I didn't really get to build any one of them up.  I didn't take the time to focus on maybe 2 at a time and get that built up and then move on to the next couple.  I just jumped right in full force thinking the more I joined the better I was.  But look at it now, sure I have a profile at all of these sites but nothing really going on.  I still have not fixed this problem but I am going to do this one site, maybe 2 at a time starting this week.  Now that I recognized what I did wrong.

If you cannot hire somebody to help you, focus your efforts in no more then 2 and build up from there.  There is no harm in having a profile in all the sites (there are a lot besides Facebook and Twitter), but just make sure you build each one up or you will not see the benefit of using social media to market your business.

I know many of you probably know this one already, but I only recently realized why I was having such a hard time building up my profiles.

About the Work at Home Job Postings

Dawn's Work at Home Blog has now added the work at home jobs board.  I just added it today, if you are looking for a job keep looking back for postings as I just opened it up.  If you are looking to fill a work at home position, you can email me at with job posting in the subject.

I have thought about how I was going to do this so it was best for everybody.  I don't want scams posted for various reasons.  I want people to have a legitimate opportunity and also if scams get posted it takes away value from the legitimate ones.  In order for this to work for everybody, we need to keep them legit.  The one way I can do this is to have employers and people looking for freelancers to email me with your job listing.  I will read about it and make sure that it is not a get rich scheme.  I will then get back to you and if accepted, it will be posted.

Any work at home or telecommuting job that is a legitimate job will be accepted whether you are looking for a freelancer or to hire somebody with your company.  When emailing me, include the description that you want displayed and how to apply.  Please try to include the pay unless you are requesting them to give you their rates to work with them.  As much information as needed for a job seeker.  Thank you!

For job seekers, it is always free.

Wednesday's Online Business Mistake-Underestimating Yourself

Happy Wednesday! Hard to believe it is time for another Wednesday's Online Business Mistake isn't it? This one is a short and simple one.  Never underestimate yourself.  You have the ability to succeed at anything you  really want.  When I say really want, I mean you want it bad enough to push yourself to success.

Many times people give up after the first time of failing or because they don't see results right away.  Too many times people decide to give up thinking that they can't do it.  They think that success was meant for somebody else.  That is not the case.  Never underestimate yourself with your online business ventures.  Yes there may be a time when you come across a bad business that you should not have gotten involved in to begin with, yes I can understand choosing to not pursue it any further.  But never let doubt be the reason holding you back.

You have the same power to succeed as many others.  It doesn't take luck to succeed and it isn't just for other people.  Underestimating yourself will cause you to fail, you will not have the confidence to continue.  You need to be telling yourself, I can do this.  I can succeed at my work at home business.  My business will grow, I have the ability to make it happen.

Easy and Free Way to Earn Money Online

A few days ago I was recommended to try out a site that was completely free to join and pays you to post in forums.  I have not had a lot of experience posting in forums so I was not sure about this, but I figured I would try it out to see if it was worth sharing with you.

This is a very legit site.  It is called Postloop and I have already received my first payment from them.  They pay by Paypal, as soon as you have earned $5 you can request a payout.  It is quite simple to earn your first $5 and the money is in your Paypal account after a staff member verifies it.  They say it could take up to 24 hours but I had the money in my account within 6 hours.  No waiting to get paid weekly or monthly.

This is not something you will get rich doing.  It is quite simple tho and you can earn some quick and easy cash.  As I had said, it is completely free-absolutely no upgrades.  You join and they have a list of forums and blogs that are available.  You subscribe to these forums and provide quality posts and you earn points that you trade in for cash.  For the blogs, you get your points for leaving quality comments.  I was impressed with how easy it was and also how quickly you get paid.  I cashed out yesterday and I can again today too.  Please note that this is not an hourly job, you get points for every post you make which is converted to cash.

You only need to:
Have a Paypal account
Be able to write with good English
Be able to write a quality forum post or blog comment

You will meet some cool people, learn quite a few things and be making a little extra money at the same time.  Check it out here, sign up and earn some legitimate money- free and easy way to earn money online

If you are a forum owner or a blog owner and would like more comments, check it out to gain some new members!

Wednesday's Online Business Mistake-Do Your Research

Happy Wednesday everybody! It is time for another Wednesday's Online Business Mistake.  The week went by pretty quick here.  Today's mistake is about doing your research.  There are too many things that we need to know about building a business whether it is online or offline.  You need to do your research!

You need to know a lot about your business, your niche or industry and what your customers need and want.  When I first started Dawn's Work at Home Blog, I had an idea of what I wanted to blog about.  I didn't think so much about what my readers wanted to read about, just what I thought they wanted to read about.  I was not being selfish and posting what I wanted people to read like it or not, I just didn't do my research to see what my readers really wanted.  I assumed I already knew what people wanted is the best way to put it.  My blog is a little different as I am not actually selling you something so you are not really a customer, just a valued reader who I appreciate.  But it is the same concept really. You are appreciated here and I would like to make sure you get information you need or are interested in when you take your time to visit my blog.  This is how I am comparing the business mistake with the same mistake I made with my blog.  It wasn't until I started to put in some research time that I started to see what my readers wanted.  I still do not know everything you want to read, I think I will put a survey up so you can anonymously let me things you want to talk about.

Now with my blog, I just started posting stuff that I thought was helpful.  Notice I said that I thought.  I have grown a bit along the way and started to research what was working and what wasn't.  I started to get an idea from comments and emails what you really like and didn't like to hear about.

Let's change this around to a business looking for customers.  Yes, people who you are going to be asking to whip out their credit cards.  Do you think that somebody is going to buy something because you want them to and you are telling them they should have it? Probably not.  Think about the market you are looking to sell to.  You will not get a single product to sell to every person, we all like different things.  So you need to do your research to find out who is the most likely to need your product.  Make a list of benefits your product offers.  Figure out who would truly benefit from this.  You wouldn't sell a CEO with a billion dollar company a work at home program-just for example.  He or she probably wouldn't really be interested, but somebody who is unemployed would probably benefit (as long as it was legit.)  There are many examples of this, but you probably get the picture.

Know your audience or your customer.  Know who you are looking to market to based on the benefits of your product.  Don't focus on getting your business out there in front of the wrong people.  Try to get it out there in front of people you know are more likely to buy.  Don't be afraid to ask your current customers to take an anonymous survey.  Explain to them that you are trying to better their experience in the future.  Many people will be honest and of course some will not take it so seriously.  But showing you care about your customers and taking the time to research your customers can build a great professional relationship with them.  You can be the go to person when they need something.

Research is very important, your business needs it to survive! There are many more details about researching and I will write another post about it if anybody would like me to.  I just wanted to mention it as it is a common business mistake whether it is an online or offline business.

Adding a Work at Home Job Board

I am thinking of adding a work at home job board to Dawn's Work at Home Blog.  This will be for legitimate jobs only.  I will review each submission before charging for the spot on the board and before posting them. I want to make sure my readers are looking at a real position and not a scam.  I will not be able to guarantee your pay, but I will make sure it is not just a "get rich quick" scam.  I wish I could guarantee your pay, but I can only do my best to see that it is not a scam website that is listed.  I may in the future add a classified section, but at this moment I am thinking of the job board first.

My goal is to help people who are looking to work at home with people who are looking for somebody to do the work.  Examples of things I will accept on the board if I do start this in the upcoming weeks are: writing positions-if you are looking for somebody to write articles for you or blog posts, blogging positions-if you are looking for somebody to run or post to a blog for you, social media management- if you are looking for somebody to run your social media for your company (or just help manage it), or really anything that is legitimate.  I am not looking for anybody posting about get rich schemes.

What are your thoughts on this? Should I add a job board page to Dawn's Work at Home Blog, would you use it? I think it would add a nice addition for work at home job seekers to meet with their next potential client or employer.  If you think that it would be a great idea and you think that you would post a job or you think you would browse the jobs in search of an online job, let me know in the comments here.  I am looking to start it soon to try to get people the jobs they would like.

This will probably be mostly contract work but there may be some that are hourly.  Most of the time online in these positions, you are a freelancer which would make your work more or less on a contract.  I am a freelancer and love it! I actually like the writing and freelancing better (I have been freelancing longer) then the business with Wela.  Wela is great but I enjoy the writing and the freelance more.

Can I Become Successful Online Too?

Running a business isn't as easy as it sounds, but it is worth it overall.  You may see others talking about how successful they are wit...
