Wednesday's Online Business Mistake-Honesty

Happy Wednesday! It is time for another Wednesday's Online Business Mistake.  I really had to think about it this week as I have been covering many of the big mistakes made working online.  I realized that I had not covered honesty on the business mistakes.  I have posted about it in the past tho.

Honesty is very important if you want to succeed in working online.  I have not made this mistake myself as I have always been too honest in life (it is possible-"does this dress make me look" for example) but I have seen many people lie about things in their business.  Sometimes they are not going out of their way to make something up, but they are not being completely honest.

Examples of people not going out of their way to lie would be: promoting a product and using the websites income stats as a sales pitch.  Sure it works sometimes for a quick sale if a customer sees crazy income potential.  They did not go out of their way to make something up.  The problem with this is, they did not personally see these results and the results may be far from accurate (ok, probably are far from accurate.)  They did not make up their own numbers and say I made this amount, but they are still using numbers they have not witnessed.

Other people come right out and say: "I made x (insert big number) amount of money with this product."  If they really did, hey cool and by all means let people know.  But on the same note tell them how you did it and that not everybody will see the same results.  Quite often tho, the person really did not make the x amount of money they claimed when it is a big number.  This is a lie to get you to buy the product.

There are so many lies about "make money at home" that I do not usually believe the big numbers unless I know the person has a good reputation.  The above were just a couple of examples, there are many.

You have to be honest with your customers and potential customers.  By telling somebody that you made a huge amount of money with a program or product when you really didn't, you will not have repeat customers.  You will be hurting your reputation and also risking legal trouble.  Nobody will trust buying from you again if they find you lied to them.  I know I wouldn't.  Make a customer happy and they may tell their friends.  Make a customer unhappy and they will tell the world.  Besides, it is not cool to be lying to people and tell them that you made a lot more then you did.  Be honest in business, always and people will trust you.
